Common questions asked when seeking help

How can I quickly find a food pantry or meal program near me?

With our Food Finder tool, free groceries near you are just a search away. Simply enter your ZIP code and click on a food bank to learn more about the hours, locations and services of food pantries and meal programs in your community.

How can I quickly access free food assistance if my mobility or transportation options are limited?

Across communities, mobile food pantries bring free groceries to convenient locations, from churches to community centers to schools. To find a mobile food pantry near you, use our Food Finder tool. Just enter your ZIP code, find your nearest food bank, and get details for available mobile pantry services.

How do I apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)?

SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) connects people to nutritious food, helping to strengthen our communities. Find out if you’re eligible for SNAP assistance and learn how to access benefits. Also, use our Food Finder tool to connect with your nearest food bank’s SNAP application assistance program.

What free services and programs are available to support neighbors with children?

If your household includes babies or young kids, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is available to support pregnant people and those with young children with food assistance and health care referrals. Find out if you’re eligible and contact your state WIC agency to apply for benefits.

Additionally, many food banks offer help with free baby food, formula and diapers. Use our Food Finder tool to find your nearest food bank and ask about available resources.

If your household includes a child or teen, special programs that provide free meals for kids, such as School Pantry and BackPack programs, may be available at your local food bank. Use our Food Finder tool to find your nearest food bank and learn about the programs and services available to your family.

What free services and programs are available to support neighbors who are elderly and/or disabled?

If your household includes seniors (people age 60+), your local food bank may offer senior food programs that provide free groceries. Use our Food Finder tool to find your nearest food bank and learn about available programs and services to meet your household’s needs.

Also, BenefitsCheckUp.org from the National Council on Aging is a free online service that provides a personalized report of local programs that might be right for you, including those that can help you pay for medications, health care, utilities and more.

If your household includes individuals with disabilities, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is available to help people living with disabilities, blindness or who are over age 65 make ends meet. Find out if you are eligible for SSI and, if so, apply.

MEETING NEIGHBORS WHERE THEY'RE AT

Kristy's story

Kristy and her husband both work hard to make sure their family has enough to eat in Utah. Even still, it can be difficult to make ends meet, especially as more communities feel the cost-of-living squeeze. A nearby pantry, a partner of the Utah Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America network, helps Kristy and her family fill in the gap.
