Innovative, robust partnerships are central to advancing the mission to end hunger and partners like Amazon are a shining example of the transformational work that can be achieved to reduce food insecurity in America.
Amazon, one of our Visionary Partners, is a steadfast partner year-round, donating more than $1 million and an estimated 50 million pounds of food in fiscal year 2024, alone, and providing in-kind support including $250,000 of pro bono freight to Feeding America annually. In addition to supporting our mission at the national level, Amazon directly invests in several network members around the country, providing home-delivered groceries through 23 partner food banks in 12 states.
That collective support at the national and local levels is amplified during times of natural disasters, when neighbors who have never experienced hunger can find themselves in need of help. Amid the back-to-back devastation of Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, for example, Amazon donated gift cards, emergency supplies and refrigerated trucks, among other resources, to help partner food banks effectively serve their impacted communities.
"In a matter of hours, Amazon can show up to food banks with technology that can restore connectivity, allowing it to communicate out the needs of the community—needs that Amazon can then support with our planes, trucks and our vast inventory selection," said Abe Diaz, principal technical product manager for Amazon Disaster Relief, in this video that includes a share-out from MANNA FoodBank (Asheville, N.C.), which saw its facility and entire supply destroy by Hurricane Helene.
