Hunger Awareness Event -- Who Can Pack a Food Box the Quickest?

August 27, 2012

Join members of Congress, representatives from national agriculture groups, local officials and members of the anti-hunger community for a packing event on Tuesday, August 28 to help raise awareness about hunger in our country and show who's the fastest packer.

The need for hunger awareness is especially critical at this time, with nearly 49 million people in the United States at risk of hunger, including 16 million children. That number include families struggling with unemployment, seniors stretching small fixed incomes, working parents and many who never expected to need a helping hand.

According to Map the Meal Gap, Feeding America's groundbreaking research report, hunger exists in every county in the United States. In the Tampa Bay area, for example, almost 700,000 people are at risk of hunger. The Feeding America Tampa Bay Food Bank helps to provide over 1 million meals a month to those in need in the area.

WHAT : Packing event competition (boxes with meals for kids in need in the area will be packed)

WHO: Lawmakers expected to appear include Sen. John Boozman (Arkansas); Rep. Charlie Dent (PA-15); Rep. Sam Graves (MO-6); local officials; national representatives of business, agriculture and anti-hunger groups.
