Statement attributed to Vince Hall, Feeding America chief government relations officer
“As the House of Representatives prepares to vote on its budget resolution, we ask lawmakers to consider its impact on the nearly 50 million people, including 14 million children, who experience hunger in the United States. People facing hunger want the same thing we all want for ourselves – dignity, access to fresh, healthy food and the opportunity to thrive. Cuts to vital federal nutrition programs like SNAP, necessitated by this resolution and the Senate version passed last week, will harm families grappling with high food costs, hurt rural economies and strain food banks already overwhelmed by rising demand. We urge the House to reject spending cuts to nutrition programs in the budget reconciliation process and support the work the House and Senate agriculture committees are doing to create a strong, bipartisan farm bill. Passage of a budget resolution with spending reduction instructions on farm bill programs will also further delay agreement on and passage of a new farm bill.”
