Statement attributed to Vince Hall, Chief Government Relations Officer
Feeding America applauds the continued commitment to increasing food security in America outlined in the Biden administration’s 2025 federal budget. Food banks across the country are under immense strain from increased demand for assistance, and the funding for proven and essential nutrition programs in this budget would help provide vital hunger relief.
The budget would make critical investments in federal nutrition programs, including The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which moves U.S.-grown food from farms to food banks to people facing hunger. It proposes full funding for mandatory TEFAP food purchases as well as an increase for TEFAP storage and distribution, an essential stream of funding that helps food banks offset the cost of storing, transporting and distributing the large quantities of TEFAP foods provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It also protects and fortifies the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by calling for a farm bill that removes barriers to enrollment and ensures food assistance benefits reflect the cost of a healthy diet. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) would also receive sufficient funding to support a modest increase in participation and allow participants to continue to receive the full, evidence-based benefit amount. The budget also proposes a reinstatement of the expanded Child Tax Credit, a powerful tool to help ensure families can access the food and resources they need to thrive.
Feeding America commends the Biden administration for prioritizing funding for federal nutrition programs in its budget and for recognizing the urgency of increasing food security in communities. We are committed to working alongside people facing hunger, the administration, Congress and other partners to advance policies that will help end hunger in America.
