What will you do as Treasure Coast Food Bank’s Nutrition Educator?

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Education Manager, Nutrition Educators will provide localized nutrition and health education in various community settings and environments. Following company and State-instituted policies and curriculum, Nutrition Educators will work to identify partners and opportunities to connect with neighbors in need and provide nutrition and health education relevant to the needs and strategies identified for their assigned Counties. Nutrition Educators will assist in developing nutrition materials, recipes, cooking demonstrations and videos, and other materials needed to reach targeted audiences. Nutrition Educators will be responsible for tracking and reporting required data and feedback from classes and other community interactions and will continuously participate in program improvement and strategic planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

-Assist in designing and implementing Nutrition Education Programs into appropriate Programs sites and other Agency Partners and other health care partner programs.
-Collaborate with the Nutrition Education and Programs team to provide localized nutrition education and healthy nudges programming across the food bank network and with community partners.
-Assist in the identification and training of possible Nutrition Education partners.
-Communicate with the Program Manager and team to procure and distribute relevant nutrition nudges, recipes, and other program materials and to implement sustainable Foods to Encourage policies and protocols.
-Effectively utilize an internal comprehensive database tracking statistical information on nutrition programs.
-Assist in developing tasty, healthful, and cost-effective recipes suitable for nutrition programs and distribution to food pantries and kitchens.
-Facilitate cooking demonstrations at community events and partner sites.
-Build and enhance relationships with agencies. Serve as liaison to community resources for the agency. Engage community partners and the general public of the community mission and strategy through presentations.
-Assist other Treasure Coast Food Bank staff on special projects
-Cross-train in other areas of the Programs Department
-Demonstrate a pleasant, professional, and helpful attitude at all times
-Commit to upholding policies, principles, and best practices for food safety.
-Other duties as assigned

Application qualifications

Key lived experiences, attributes, and skillsets sought in the Nutrition Educator

-A Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition, nutrition science, dietetics, or a related field and at least two years of relevant experience is preferred
-Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
-Demonstrated experience working in low-income, culturally diverse community settings and a basic understanding of the challenges and barriers faced when individuals and families seek assistance. Knowledge and experience with homeless or housing insecure populations a plus
-Ability to work well with non-English speaking populations, in low-income areas, with children and families, seniors, etc. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
-Ability to independently manage multiple projects, taking the initiative to improve the program and smoothly coordinate it while maintaining a very collaborative work style with the Programs Team
-Demonstrated experience and skills with public speaking, including giving group presentations and training workshops with diverse audiences.
-Proven ability to manage and document deliverables and data from a number of sources. Spreadsheet skills are a must.
-Ability to work constructively with individuals (agency staff, the public, and volunteers) from various socioeconomic backgrounds in culturally diverse work environments.
-Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Word Office Suite of applications.
-Demonstrated timely ability to hand in deliverables and maintain agreed-upon work hours.
-Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s license
