Position Title: Nutrition Educator
Position type: Part-time Grant funded - one year
Schedule: Mon – Fri - 25 hours/week (occasional evening or weekend hours may be required)
Pay scale: $21.15 /hour
Reports to: Director of Programs
Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory requirements for this position

General Description:
The Nutrition Educator is part of the Food Bank of the Albemarle’s Programs team and supports access to education focusing on healthy food choices and their preparation. This position oversees Food Bank of the Albemarle’s nutrition education workshops at community locations, including food pantries and mobile food pantries. Responsibilities include workshop marketing, scheduling, preparing food, and facilitating workshops for a minimum of 10 individuals. This position is hybrid and entails travel throughout the Food Bank’s 15-county service area, with 60% of the position’s time working at community locations and 40% of the positions time working on-site or from a home office. Food preparation for workshops must take place in the Food Bank of the Albemarle’s teaching kitchen.

Job responsibilities

Primary responsibilities and tasks:
• Communicate and regularly collaborate with other FBA Nutrition Educator to ensure seamless Nutrition Education support to food pantries and other partner agencies/community organizations
• Recruit for and schedule nutrition education workshops at community sites, including partner agencies, with the goal of conducting 5 workshops per month
• Plan, workshop for, and conduct in-person and virtual nutrition education workshops
• Provide nutrition resources, such as recipes, to partner agencies and MFP program sites, including printed FBA recipe cards. Respond to agency and client requests for recipes and other food information as needed
• Enter program data, keep and maintain records, procure necessary supplies for educational efforts, and organize data to timely submit all FBA reports
• Keep accurate inventory of FBA equipment and materials used for nutrition education
workshops
• Create FBA-related messages for communications via email, newsletters, and social media. Work with the Development department & the Agency Relations team to regularly communicate nutrition education workshops schedules, FBA resources, and important health and nutrition messages via social media
• Work with the Director of Programs to prepare and develop program plans, resource and program evaluation, and schedules
• Serve as backup to other Nutrition Educators as needed
• Other related duties as assigned in support of organizational goals and needs

Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, utilizing a computer, and employing fine coordination including use of a keyboard
• Must occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist
• Must be able be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Must be able to push and pull mobile kitchen cart
• Prolonged periods standing or walking while performing cooking and training tasks
• Repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including dexterity required to perform food preparation activities

Travel:
Travel within the service area is expected. There may be additional travel for
professional conferences or workshops required.

*Service Area:
Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Martin, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington counties

Application qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or Public Health
• Registered Dietitian preferred
• Minimum of 2 years in the community nutrition or public health setting
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, the ability to use social media, and the capacity to create eye-catching outreach materials

Essential Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to work and interact with individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally diverse environment
• Ability to take initiative, work well independently, and collaborate as part of a team, building a positive work environment
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Certified as ServSafe Food Protection Manager or equivalent, or willing to become
certified
• Ability to travel throughout a 15-county service area* and accommodate possible overnight travel
• Must have a current, state-issued Drivers' License with a minimum of three years’ safe driving history
