We are looking for an experienced full-time Logistics Manager to oversee all daily transportation activities and operational strategies required to ensure the timely delivery and pick-ups of products to clients in the most cost-effective manner for Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB). Supervising a team of 15+ drivers, providing leadership and ensuring that all drivers adhere to policies, procedures, and DOT regulations. The Logistics Manager will assign daily duties to manage the successful delivery of food to our network of community partners as well as pickups of food from our network of donors. This position will develop and utilize an automated system to manage the transportation schedule, food delivers to partner agencies, backhauls from food donors, food drives, special events and other transportation-related activities as needed. The Logistics Manager will ensure drivers, who are frequently the community’s face-to-face interaction with CPFB, provides the highest levels of customer service, respect, and integrity in all their work.

Job responsibilities

Job Accountabilities:
• Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance logistics efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.
• Lead and motivate our Transportation Team, providing leadership, guidance, coaching and performance feedback.
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
• Supervise drivers in all aspects of transportation and compliance with Food Bank policy and procedures, rules and regulations, DOT and OSHA.
• Manage and oversee all aspects of fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance on leased and owned vehicles, compliance, driver management, routing, fuel consumption and over all utilization. Coordinate the repairs and maintenance of all CPFB’s trailers, trucks, and other owned vehicles.
• Schedule vehicle service with appropriate maintenance providers seeking direction, if necessary, from the VP/Director of Logistics. Maintain the vehicle list, CDL license, medical card expiration dates, and keep necessary vehicle registrations current.
• Manage all accident reporting in a timely manner and in accordance with CPFB standards and procedures.
• Conduct annual review of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and updates as appropriate to reflect proper standards and document any corrective actions that are taken.
• Schedule all Donor Offerings from Feeding America and keep the VP/Director of Logistics informed of any denials.
• Serve as liaison with Agency Services to maintain the current contacts for the member agencies to distribute food quickly.
• Manage the coordination of food deliveries to agencies, including developing and maintaining the daily, weekly, and monthly delivery schedules.
• Work with our warehouse operating system, Primarius 2 (P2) to run delivery reports to help with routing our deliveries.
• Manage food deliveries to agencies by assuring the correct number of trucks and drivers are assigned to haul the poundage to be delivered and coordinate appropriate backhauls to optimize operating efficiency.
• Coordinate and dispatch drivers to keep appointment times for deliveries and backhauls; allow the drivers to coordinate their assigned daily drops.
• Listen to suggestions and recommendations from drivers to optimize efficiency and run any conflicts by the VP/Director of Logistics for clarification.
• Provide directions to drivers as needed both internally and externally.
• Respond to food donor and partner agency requests for information and documentation and troubleshoot and/or problem-solve where necessary, keeping the VP/Director of Logistics informed of all situations.
• Manage and organize the monthly fuel receipts and send the DVIRs and Trip Reports to the appropriate leasing or owned entities.
• Maintain a current listing of the Fresh Express site information for delivery purposes and coordinate the annual delivery calendar with Agency Services, and the Senior Programs Manager regarding the Commodity Supplemental Food Program boxes.
• Serve as the primary backup to the VP/Director of Logistics.
• Maintain a positive attitude and professional relationship with all food donors, partner agencies, and colleagues.
• Participate in internal committees and working groups as required.
• Support special events as necessary.
• Work toward updating our Technology applications to advance into the 21st century.
• Work directly with Customer Service and Operations daily on agency deliveries and space restrictions.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration/Management, or related field.
• Additional years of experience would be considered in lieu of having a Bachelor’s degree.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:
• Five+ (5) years of experience in logistics, transportation, or a similar role, with at least 2 years in a management/leadership position.
• Previous work experience in a logistic environment preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams: recruiting, coaching, motivating, and retaining high performing employees as related to transportation.
• Ability to make frequent changes of routine and pace of activity due to unpredictable demands without loss of efficiency or composure.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a dispatching position or equivalent experience.

• Ability to operate standard office equipment (machines, tools, and devices) used in performing only the essential function including computer and related equipment, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, and telephone.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• May supervise 13 - 15 employees.
• Hire, supervise, onboard, train and provide professional development to transportation department team members.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
• Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, coaching and directing work, addressing complaints, handling disciplinary actions and resolving problems.

Physical Requirements or Licenses:
• A valid driver’s license with history of good driving record.
• Ability to travel that may include consecutive overnight stays, and traveling by car, bus, and airplane.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, standing, and/or bending, listening, talking and/or visual concentration
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hand and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear and smell.
• Involves activities in both office and warehouse environments as well as in public and private venues where special events may be held.
• Conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, working closely with others, working alone, and working protracted or irregular hours.
• Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
• The CPFB work environment is moderately loud.
