JOB DESCRIPTION:
Oversee the activities of strategic sourcing on behalf of The Food Bank. This includes analyzing current trends to efficiently acquire food through the Feeding America Choice System, soliciting competitive bids/proposals from vendors as well and building and maintaining relationships with retailers, manufacturers, and other food banks. Additionally, this position will serve as the primary resource for American Institute of Baking (AIB) compliance. This position will report to the Chief Operations Officer and will work closely with the operations manager, warehouse supervisor, and logistics coordinator. This position will manage the food strategy team.

Job responsibilities

DUTIES:
1. Build and maintain relationships with retail, manufacturing and transportation companies about food donations and food bank business
2. Acquire donated and purchased food items through the Feeding America (FA) network and beyond; negotiate freight options through the Choice System.
3. Oversee the procurement of food and other items, including soliciting bids (RFB) and proposals (RFP) to ensure program needs are met while maximizing the value of each dollar.
4. Maintain and develop relationships with other Feeding America food banks.
5. Work side by side with the logistics coordinator to bid, negotiate & assign freight options for incoming loads
6. Arrange transportation of incoming loads, including soliciting bids when appropriate, coordinating paperwork, invoices & logistics.
7. Ensure an accurate product acquisition database, department reporting, donor correspondence, and mail lists are maintained for positive results.
8. Coordinate and maintain AIB related reports and documents, including daily, weekly, and monthly documentation of cleaning, sanitation, pest control, GMP(Good Manufacturing Practices), food safety, food security and facility maintenance, including MDS (Material Data Sheets) and IPM (Integrated Pest Management) logs
9. Conduct ongoing food safety training programs for all new and current staff
10. Serve as a member and leader of the food safety and employee safety committees
11. Work to ensure all products are handled and stored using proper food handling procedures
12. Responsible for data entry into the Feeding America QPR(Quarterly Pulse Report) and NAR(Network Activity Report)
13. Participate in monthly calls and webinars for retail, emerging retail and meal connect to learn best practices and new trends in food banking and donations
14. Maintain documentation of visits with retailers and manufacturers
15. Assist agencies with retail relations
16. Work at all times to maintain the image of the Food Bank as a positive one in the public view, most specifically as it pertains to the relationships of retail and manufacturer partners

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Be courteous, friendly, polite, patient, and personable

• Be highly organized and detail-oriented
• Prior management experience preferred
• Prior sourcing and procurement experience
• Be able to work independently yet always be a team player
• Be proficient in computer operation with data entry experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Be comfortable instructing diverse and multiple individuals and groups
• Be a self-starter and problem solver
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• Have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at once
• Understand the issues facing individuals experiencing food insecurity
