This Director of Food Resourcing supports strategic leadership and management of Food Bank of Northern Nevada’s Food Sourcing team. The Director of Food Resourcing is responsible for creating, developing and managing food acquisition initiatives to ensure continued growth in food resources. This position oversees and grows sourcing of retail, wholesale, manufacturing, donated, purchased and government perishable and non-perishable food supplies with particular focus on increasing donated food through industry relationships including but not limited to farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors, retail grocery and food product companies. Ensures that all food acquisition activities comply with standards set forth in the Feeding America Partner Food Bank Agreement and reflect the highest level of professionalism, follows best business practices, fosters positive community relations and is committed to organizational mission of ending hunger.

Job responsibilities

Essential Functions, include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for managing and implementing activities that align with organization’s Food Sourcing plan strategic goals and initiatives.
• Implement and support processes and best practices for all product donation and purchasing programs including adherence to FBNN and federal procurement policies.
• Plan, implement, and analyze all strategies that utilize government funds allocated to acquisition of products.
• Manage the development and retention of existing food donors with the goal of increasing donated pounds and frequency of donations.
• Identify and build relationships with potential new donors, including food industry businesses, local/regional retailers, distributors, and growers along with other food banks.
• Conduct regular, relationship-enhancing visits to local donor sites.
• Collaborate with Marketing team on development of materials for educating donors about the Food Bank.
• Work collaboratively with Operations and Program teams to ensure that food acquisition and distribution strategies align with strategic direction.
• Establish food sourcing goals consistent with food bank guidelines including but not limited to nutrition and maximizing receipt of donated product.
• Lead, promote and influence operational changes with the operations team for improvements in inventory management, receiving, and distribution models.
• Partner with food donors, warehouse and transportation teams to develop plans around service gaps/opportunities.
• Work with food sourcing team to continuously improve quality, variety and availability of food products for partner agencies in the FBNN service area.
• Lead donor engagement in partnership with Development team through appropriate engagement activities, including visits, communications, and recognition programs.
• Host food industry member visits and tours.
• Actively engage with Feeding America food sourcing department and utilize assets and knowledge available in the network.
• Establish and maintain relationships with other Feeding America network partners and Partner Food Banks, Partner State Associations and Regional Coops, agency partners and other hunger relief and disaster relief organizations to maximize effectiveness of programs.
• Establish, track, analyze and report on sourcing goals, i.e. nutritious pounds, retail pounds, donated pounds, produce pounds, overall cost per pound, budget compliance and donor statistics.
• Reduce food waste through focus on incoming food quality.
• Lead food sourcing team to assure that all activities are within budget and on track to meet goals.
• Responsible for communicating any variances to Leadership team.
• Partner with the Marketing team responsible for overseeing food drives, recommending most needed and/or desirable items.
• Participate in special projects as necessary and upon request.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to analyze complex data sets and set KPI’s.
• Ability to work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders and customers and draw people together and help align all departments around initiatives and projects.

Application qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college.
• Valid NV driver’s license and proof insurance.
• Ability to pass a drug screen (marijuana included), background check and eligibility to be
• Covered under the food bank’s vehicle insurance policy.
• 2-5 years’ experience working in a food related industry.
• Food safety training and certification.

Preferred Skills & Experience:
• Master’s Degree or advanced certifications in related field.
• Familiarity with ERP/CRM systems and databases.
• Knowledge of food procurement, inventory practices and food safety standards.
• Two years of management work in the grocery or food processing industry, food sales, or marketing.
• Experience in food banking and/or federal food commodities programs
