The Director of Donor Analytics and Operations is responsible for overseeing the organization’s donor database (Salesforce) and ensuring that it is optimized to provide actionable insights that drive fundraising and donor engagement strategies. This role leads the development and integration of systems for clean, accurate reporting and effective donor data management. The Director will train and support internal teams in utilizing Salesforce for reporting, account management, and operational tasks, ensuring cross-functional collaboration and operational excellence across philanthropy efforts.
1. Salesforce Optimization & Training:
• Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of Salesforce features such as dashboards, reports, workflows, and task management.
• Provide training and guidance to internal users, ensuring that all team members understand how to effectively use Salesforce for reporting, donor account management, and day-to-day operational tasks.
• Act as a subject matter expert on Salesforce functionality, helping staff to track donor engagement and fundraising activities.
2. Philanthropy Operations & Systems Integration:
• Oversee the integration of various systems with Salesforce to ensure seamless, clean data reporting and consistency across fundraising and donor management processes.
• Provide strategic guidance on philanthropy operations, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure donor data is accurate and supports decision-making.
3. Reporting & Data Analytics:
• Create and maintain real-time and scheduled reports, providing insights into donor trends, campaign performance, and other key metrics.
• Develop data visualizations using tools like Salesforce and Tableau to present complex information in an accessible format for leadership and teams.
• Ensure donor information is managed and structured for efficient reporting and analytics.
4. Strategic Oversight & Leadership:
• Oversee donor data management practices, ensuring accuracy, data hygiene, and compliance with legal and organizational standards.
• Supervise the Donor Engagement and Operations Manager, providing leadership and direction on operational improvements.
• Ensure timely donor acknowledgment processes, including the generation of tax receipts, acknowledgment letters, and other critical communications.
5. Collaboration & Process Improvement:
• Collaborate closely with development, finance, and leadership teams to reconcile donations, monitor fundraising campaigns, and support strategic initiatives.
• Identify and implement improvements in workflows and automation processes to streamline donor engagement, gift processing, and stewardship efforts.
6. Compliance & Best Practices:
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and legal standards in donor data management and reporting.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and trends in donor analytics, Salesforce optimization, and operational efficiency.
7. Team Leadership:
• Directly supervise the Donor Engagement and Operations Manager, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to innovate and enhance internal systems and processes.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations, set clear goals, and ensure accountability within the team.
• Build a repeatable team learning cadence, resulting in continual process improvement and measurable outcomes.
8. Other:
• All other duties as assigned by the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer.
• Passion for alleviating hunger and aligned with our mission and values.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, data management, information systems, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 5+ years of experience in Salesforce administration, client/customer/donor analytics, or development operations, including experience guiding internal users on system use and optimization
• Advanced proficiency in Salesforce, with experience in custom reports, dashboards, automation, and system integrations.
• Strong technical skills, including SQL and experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
• Proven experience in systems integration and data management, ensuring clean reporting and data accuracy.
• Leadership experience, with the ability to manage staff and lead cross-functional collaboration across philanthropy operations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and training skills, with a collaborative working style that supports team development and operational success.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive process improvements in a dynamic environment.
• 1+ years of experience in project management working with internal teams and external vendors.
• Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Software, specifically Word, Outlook and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications (bonus points):
• Salesforce Administrator certification or equivalent experience.
• Experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly with donor relations or fundraising operations.
