Job responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
Ensure all expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.

Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the agency’s performance.
Provides financial analysis, emphasizing capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

Works with the Interim Director of Finance to provide external auditors with needed information for the annual audit.

Serves as Interim Director of Finance in the absence of Interim Director of Finance.

Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining high accuracy. Responds to inquiries from the CEO, Interim Director of Finance, and Program Directors regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and the like.

Support the Interim Director of Finance in engaging the Board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.

Assist the Interim Director of Finance and Program Directors with the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.

Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports accurately and timely; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes, and keep senior leadership abreast of the agency’s financial status.

Ensure the agency complies with Federal, state, and other financial legal requirements.
Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working with the Program Directors; continuously collaborate with Program Directors to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.

Study, determine, and standardize work procedures. Prepare work schedules to improve efficiency and expedite the workflow of subordinates, and provide training to new and existing staff as needed.

Team Leadership
Leverage the strengths of the current finance team members, help clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop and implement training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.

Supervise the Accountants to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met and advise staff regarding handling non-routine reporting transactions.

Assist in developing and implementing new procedures and features to enhance the department's workflow.

Issue oral and written instructions; assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and report on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.

Application qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university) in Accounting.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, Masters in Accounting, or related field is preferred.
Experience: Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience and one (1) year of supervisory experience. A minimum of 12 accounting credits.

Certificates and Licenses
None is required for the position. CPA licenses and affiliation are desired.
