In this leadership role, the Assistant Vice President of Operations is responsible for the core Operational functional areas of; transportation, warehousing and inventory control, food partnerships, food safety, partner agency network strategy, has oversight of all program logistics. Monitor and evaluate the department’s operating performance and ensure all policies are followed daily. Assist with research of new programmatic opportunities and guide budget decisions. Extensive management experience in this field and strong strategic and analytical thinking capabilities are a must. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Assistant Vice President of Operations will identify and influence connectivity between network members; and external constituencies and uphold and display organizational values with strong soft skills and problem-solving.

Job responsibilities

Operations Essential Functions
• Prepare and manage the departmental budget, ensuring sound fiscal stewardship and adherence to budget targets.
• Implement processes and systems that will ensure the optimum utilization of available resources, including the design and implementation of a metric-driven culture that quickly responds to opportunities to improve existing services and create new services.
• Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies and activities including data collection, evaluation, and interpretation of performance metrics, technology, systems, equipment, logistics, policies and procedures, workforce planning, and training efforts designed to accommodate and support the rapid growth objectives of the organization.
• Responsible for the oversight of all grants awarded in Operations, ensuring the achievement and compliance with all stated objectives.
• Evaluate the department’s profits and revenue and calculate risks and prepare and allocate budgets.
• Oversee inventory to ensure that processes and inventory controls are working effectively and maximize the use of inventory software.
• Direct a safe and efficient warehouse operation, following required guidelines to ensure food safety. Maintain compliance with Feeding America, AIB, and other regulatory bodies.
• Collaborate with other executives and members of SLT to identify and execute business strategies.

Operations Primary Objectives
• Direct warehousing, inventory accuracy, transportation/logistics and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
• Oversee management of the Volunteer Services group providing adequate volunteer labor and meeting the needs of program service deliveries where requested.
• Organize and implement any disaster relief efforts operationally.
• Interview, hire, train, and mentor the operations management team.

Program’s Primary Objectives
• Timely and effective administration and execution of all regulatory contractual requirements (Federal, State, Local, Feeding America, and others as appropriate).
• Timely and effective administration and execution of all privately restricted funded programs.
• Measurable, qualitative analysis and evaluation of programs and their outcomes.
• Cohesive communications, policies, systems, and procedures between appropriate departments and branches.

• Being a dynamic and engaged participant with SLT.
• Uphold and display organizational values and policies.
• Serve as a positive example and role model to staff members.

• Identify and connect with key stakeholders in the community that will enhance the Food Bank’s mission.
• Perform other duties or responsibilities as required.

Application qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field. (MBA, MAC, or equivalent graduate degree preferred).
• At least ten years of progressively responsible management work experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in a managerial or executive role in this industry (non-profit sector is greatly preferred).
• Strong business acumen with a broad understanding of fundamental business fundamentals.
• Demonstratable ability and proven track record in strategy-building and implementation.
• Working knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics.
• Food distribution and/or logistics experience is greatly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build a consensus in a high-pressure environment.
• Valid NC Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel).

Benefits

Salary: $79k-$83,500k annually based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance. Simple IRA retirement plan with matching contribution. Paid Time Off (PTO) and ten (12) paid holidays.
