Positions Supervised: Receiving Lead, Retail Donation Specialist, Retail Pickup and Agency Delivery Drivers, and Warehouse Associates

Position Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for facility planning and development, facility, equipment, and vehicle maintenance across two facilities used by the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank (FRFB), as well as the oversight of warehousing operations at one of those facilities (3631 Lee Hill Drive). The position also supports product acquisition as well as distribution activities executed from the Lee Hill Drive facility, especially through fulfilling orders made by community partner agencies. Success in the position requires experience in supervising multiple employees with complementary and interdependent functions and the capability to support staff and volunteers in executing product storage, handling, and transportation logistics efficiently and cost-effectively.

Job responsibilities

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the interdependent activities of warehouse associates, drivers, and agency support staff, in partnership with their respective managers to ensure safe receipt, storage, and handling of food commodities and other products in keeping with Feeding America, USDA, state agency, and local guidelines
Coordinate the complementary activities of the retail salvage program, partner and direct distribution activities, agency pickup and shopping activities, order preparation, and receiving, including determination of the most effective structure and processes to manage staff and volunteer labor
Serve as part of the senior management team to help develop strategic direction, facilitate cross-organizational communication and collaboration, and execute strategic initiatives and daily operations
Manage facilities and vehicle fleet maintenance activities, including managing all external vendor relationships to support facility and fleet repairs and improvements, systems operations, and integrated pest management
Responsible for ensuring facilities operations and safety practices align with OSHA, AIB, USDA, Feeding America, Virginia Department of Health, and other licensing standards
Oversees the receiving and distributing of incoming and outgoing product to ensure adequate FIFO inventory turnover and management with minimal waste
Provide strong leadership to the organization’s distribution activity to maximize opportunities for product to reach its intended audience by timely means
Oversee the maintenance of complete and accurate records related to products received and distributed, including donated, purchased, and government supplied product
Coordinate effective plans for product transportation to and from facilities, among facilities, and to community partners receiving products from FRFB
Manage volunteers, along with other staff, in the sortation process of donated foods, following food safety guidelines
Lead disaster preparation and response activity to ensure organizational capability to operate and execute in extraordinary circumstances
Develop and manage operational and capital budgets for the Distribution Services warehousing and fleet management in ways that exhibit good stewardship and preserve appropriate operational capacity
Perform other duties and responsibilities, as may be required

Valid VA Driver’s License
Specific to Position
Bachelor’s degree and/or five years of experience in the food industry, food banking, or warehouse management field required.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proficient knowledge of Google Workspace
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills/relationship-building capabilities
Self-starter with a strong logistical management focus
Capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines and completing follow-up communication in a timely manner
Ability to work independently and effectively

Working Conditions: The position’s work is often executed in a warehouse affected by seasonal temperatures, especially hot & humid summers, and cold & wet winters for several hours at a time. While this position’s responsibilities are primarily performed in a warehouse environment, the employee must also possess strong computer skills and work in an office environment to fulfill tasks requiring a computer. The employee may periodically need to withstand long workdays supporting the FRFB’s special events, food drives, and programs. This position requires the employee to have weekend availability as a staff support resource and occasionally to work on weekends.
