Cargill expanded its long-standing commitment to fight hunger by recently contributing another $1 million to Feeding America. The contribution supported the National Produce Program which made available 19.2 million pounds of fresh produce to Feeding America’s network of 200 foodbanks.
As part of an emergency $5.5 million commitment to fight hunger, Cargill also provided a $500,000 gift to Second Harvest Heartland, an member food bank of Feeding America located in Cargill ‘s headquarters community of Minneapolis, Minn. In addition, Cargill businesses around the world donated another approximately $500,000 in cash to Feeding America’s foodbanks, as well as contributing much needed protein such as meat products and 144,000 pounds of egg product.
Cargill has partnered with Feeding America since 1986. Total donations now include nearly $3,000,000 in cash and millions of pounds of food products. Cargill’s support for Feeding America’s food safety initiatives have resulted in the development of food safety guidelines and food safety training program at its foodbanks, as well funds to enhance its infrastructure.
“Hunger relief agencies have been facing a growing demand for their services at a time when donations are shrinking. In light of Cargill’s purpose to nourish people, we’ve made these donations to help address immediate shortfalls of food for families in need. Cargill is committed to leveraging its leadership in food and agriculture to tackle complex economic, environmental and social challenges. Our partnership with Feeding America is a key component of this commitment.”
