Clients of Feeding America member food banks and their partner agencies are often unable to access or afford the variety and quantity of foods needed for a healthful diet. The Feeding America network of 200 member food banks has created a strong foundation geared towards getting wholesome staples to the 46 million people we serve each year.
As a result, Feeding America is uniquely positioned to help those who struggle with hunger while also promoting better nutrition by increasing access to healthful foods like fruits and vegetables, raising awareness of the coexistence of hunger with other diet-related diseases, and by promoting nutrition education.
Feeding America has a unique role to play in the MyPlate partnership. By joining this partnership, we can position ourselves to lead the effort to eliminate hunger while also using our position as the largest hunger-relief organization in the country to promote healthful food choices for our clients. We can elevate the challenges our network and clients face in addressing the immediate food needs of our clients with the growing need to focus on foods to encourage. We can collaborate to increase awareness of both hunger and healthy eating, while building solutions that are appropriate and sustainable in the low income communities we serve.
