Walmart"Walmart is committed to fighting hunger in America every day. We believe that when nonprofits and companies work together we can make long-term, positive change for the millions of people in America who struggle with hunger. As a long-standing partner with Feeding America, we appreciate and value their commitment to helping those in need and the services provided by food banks to communities across the nation."

Deeply committed to ending domestic hunger, Walmart is one of Feeding America’s top corporate donors and named Donor of the Year for their support.  Since partnering with Feeding America in 2005 Walmart has been dedicated to addressing basic, unmet needs.  In May, 2010, Walmart named Feeding America as one of the recipient organizations of a landmark $2 billion commitment over five years to fight domestic hunger through the “Fighting Hunger Together” initiative.

“We are genuinely thankful to Walmart for their sustained commitment to fighting domestic hunger,” said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. “With over 50 million Americans struggling with hunger, our country is in crisis.  Walmart's multi-year contribution will help give Feeding America and our nationwide network of more than 200 food banks the latitude to more effectively serve the 37 million people who turn to us every year for assistance.  No one should go hungry and we thank Walmart for supporting our mission for a hunger-free America.”

A part of this commitment included 65 new refrigerated trucks for Feeding America food banks.  These refrigerated vehicles allow the safe and secure transport of items like meat and dairy, which are the most expensive items on grocery shelves and the most difficult for Feeding America clients to obtain. Since the partnership began, Walmart has donated 118 trucks helping Feeding America in leading its mission to supply nutritious, healthful and protein-rich food to those who need it more than ever.

“We are tremendously grateful to our committed partners in the fight against domestic hunger,” Escarra said.  “Thanks to the long-term ongoing support of our partners like Walmart, Feeding America will continue to lead the fight against domestic hunger, a fight we cannot win alone.”
