Janet Gibbs has been Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Feeding America since January 2009. Gibbs guides on a broad range of strategic, operational and financial issues, and also ensures the financial well-being of the organization via budgeting, accounting, financial reporting and treasury. She also oversees information technology, legal services, internal audit and human resources.
Gibbs has extensive background in financial management, operations, and business development. Prior to joining Feeding America, Gibbs spent four years with the American Bar Association, serving as Associate Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer. In this role, Gibbs provided executive leadership for all human, financial and capital resources of the Association in Chicago and Washington, D.C., through oversight of a $213 million operating budget, which included $35 million of international grant activity.
Before the American Bar Association, Gibbs was Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer for Loyola University Chicago. While working for Loyola, she oversaw a $316 million operating budget and a $16 million capital budget. She led the organization’s comprehensive Redesign for Results initiative, which resulted in more than $2 million in annual savings and a 15 percent reduction in overall operating expenses while supporting strategic reinvestment.
Earlier in her career, Gibbs held a number of finance-related positions at organizations including Wright State University, Ohio State University, Arthur Young & Co., Ernst & Whinney and Cincinnati Public Schools.
For nearly 30 years, Gibbs has held a number of volunteer positions with civic organizations. Currently, Gibbs serves on the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana’s Board of Directors, Executive Committee.. She also serves as President of the Board of Directors for Asian Human Services.
Additionally, Gibbs has held leadership roles at numerous professional associations and currently serves on the Board of America’s Charities and on the Advisory Board of Enhanced Capital Partners’ Community Development program.
Gibbs holds an MBA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Cincinnati and is a Certified Public Accountant.
