Position Description
Reporting to the Chair of the Board, the CEO will be based in Austin and lead a team of seven staff currently based in several Texas cities. The CEO will build upon the growth trajectory of the past several years. She/he will provide a strong strategic direction to the Organization, represent TFBN throughout the State and at national settings, and advocate for the critical mission of the Network.
Job Responsibilities
The Board of the Texas Food Bank Network has identified the following priorities for the incoming CEO:
- Build and cultivate Federal and State relations, identify and secure funding sources, and advocate for public policies to end hunger.
- Develop the capabilities of the member food banks, support the adoption of best practices, strengthen transparency and accountability, and seek opportunities for meaningful collaboration that benefit individual food banks and the network.
- Procure additional resources—food, distribution channels, funding, marketing—for sustaining and opportunistic initiatives.
Essential duties and responsibilities of the CEO include the following:
- Executive Leadership: Design, implement, monitor, and review programs, policies and systems to enhance the operations and achieve the goals established by the TFBN Board.
- Government and Community Relations: Serve as an active chief spokesperson for TFBN throughout the State, with legislators and government staff, with the media and through public relations channels.
- Corporate Relations: Collaborate with member food banks in building regional and Statewide programs with corporations providing food, transportation and distribution services, and cause-related marketing initiatives.
- Financial Management: Assume responsibilities for financial performance, measurement, and compliance. Direct the budgetary process and assure adequate risk management strategies and financial reporting relationships are in place.
- Board Relations: Promote a strong, effective and collegial relationship with all members of the TFBN Board of Directors.
- Fund Development: Assume a leadership role in fundraising activities, including the preparation of an annual strategic development plan for Board approval.
- Staff Development: Take initiative to expand the skills, knowledge and diversity of TFBN staff.
Application Qualifications
Candidates will possess the following education and experience:
- Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree desired
- 7 plus years’ experience in a nonprofit or public policy government relations position
- Experience managing staff in remote offices is desired
