Position Description
Raising awareness within assigned counties of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits and identifying eligible residents who are not receiving food stamps and assists them in applying for SNAP benefits, using Benefit Bank software.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Food Assistance Outreach, the Food Stamp Outreach Counselor is responsible for conducting food stamp outreach in assigned service area (Fairfield, Fayette, Madison, Pickaway and Ross counties) for Mid-Ohio Foodbank.
Application Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree, valid OH license and reliable transportation; at least three years of social service/human services experience or work in a non-profit environment. Knowledge of Ohio Department of Job & Family Services procedures, processes, and benefits available; awareness of the Ohio Benefit Bank service; strong communication skills and experience with conflict resolution; experience using of web-based/online forms. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Candidates should have the ability to interact with difficult personalities (or persons made difficult by their desperate situations) and with persons from impoverished circumstances and ability to listen, empathizes, and strategize while maintaining healthy boundaries and must be able to represent Mid-Ohio Food Bank with professionalism when interacting with member agencies and partners.
