Position Description

With over $4MM in assets and annual revenue in excess of $1.7MM, Second Harvest is seeking an Executive Director to replace our retiring executive.  Located in Muncie Indiana and serving an eight county area the candidate will be responsible for the complete administration and management of the entire operation.  He/She will work with the Board of Directors to develop policies, long-term plans, and strategy for the organization.

Job Responsibilities

1.      Develop, in conjunction with the Board, a strategic plan for optimum efficiency of the Food Bank.

2.      Work with the Board to develop and monitor the global goals

3.      With the Board Chair, enable the board to govern the Food Bank properly and facilitate a positive relationship with the Board.

4.      Implement and coordinate the organization’s goals in conjunction with the partnership agreement with Feeding America.

5.      Submit annual budgets for Board approval and ensure that the organization operates within those guidelines.

6.      Ensure that the Board is fully informed about issues that affect overall operation of the Food Bank or issues that have or could have a major impact on Food Bank funding, management, programs, or services.

7.      Provide fiscal oversight for all functions of the organization.

8.      Oversee fundraising efforts and help raise needed financial support.

9.      Serve as official spokesperson for the Food Bank to all external communities, media, state and federal programs, and governmental agencies.

10.  Support the operations and administration of the agency through managing the human resources of the organization.

11.  Maintain an effective management team, providing for succession of lead team members.

12.  Maintain a climate that attracts and motivates top-quality staff and volunteers.

Application Qualifications

1.      Four year college degree or equivalent experience.

2.      Minimum ten years supervisory experience

3.      Excellent oral and written communication skills

4.      Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and organizations

5.      Ability to travel locally, and on occasion, regionally/nationally to attend related meetings and functions

6.      Occasional evening and weekend work

7.      Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience with budgetary activities for similar or larger size not-for-profit

8.      Knowledge and experience in non-profit governance, Board development, regulations, and reporting requirements.

9.      Experience in advocacy related to fulfillment of basic needs for all citizens in the community.

10.  Demonstrated proven results in fundraising background

11.  Positive attitude and ability to lead and develop a team approach

Successful candidate will reside/be willing to relocate to Second Harvest’s market area.
