Position Description

Directs the overall financial plans and accounting practices of the organization with minimum supervision. Oversees administration (general office activities and procedures), treasury, accounting, budget, and audit activities of the organization. Oversees financial and accounting system controls and standards and ensures timely financial and statistical reports for management, Board, and other Committees’ use.

  • Supervises the maintenance of general ledgers, accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers and the banking/cashiering/collection activities of Feeding America San Diego.
  • Responsible for all accounting associated with Feeding America San Diego.
  • Responsible for all aspects of budget planning and presentation, including preparation of any/all spreadsheets needed for same.
  • Prepares and reconciles monthly inventory reports to assure product received, distributed, and on hand are recorded correctly in the general ledger. Completes poundage report and distributes to Directors.
  • Prepares departmental and consolidated operating (including poundage distribution) and financial statements for monthly meetings and as needed/requested by Executive Director and/or Board of Directors.
  • Annual audit coordination.
  • Supervises Finance staff.
  • Responsible for all Payroll functions.
  • Assists Executive Director and/or Board of Directors in monitoring benefits packages with goal of balancing organization cost and employee satisfaction.
  • Assists with restricted funding reports.
  • Management of all treasury functions from investments of surplus cash, line of credit, and any necessary loans.
  • Other duties as assigned or delegated.

This position will interact closely with everyone. This position may provide information to donors, potential donors, individuals in need, volunteers, agency representatives, FASD Board and staff, and others from the community.

Provide direct and full scope supervisory responsibilities of finance department staff and volunteers.

Application Qualifications

  • Four Year Degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Area. Master Degree Preferred.
  • Proven success in managing and motivating employees.
  • Significant experience in accounting or finance, including in a managerial capacity.
  • Non-profit Finance/Accounting experience preferred.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting FASD’s mission. Shows compassion and appreciation for hunger issues.
  • General knowledge of nonprofit organizational practices.
  • A professional demeanor with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem solving.
  • Responsible, well organized, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows 2000, Excel, Microsoft Word, Publisher, accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a complex and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills.
  • Proven track record of success.
  • Standard office equipment and machines such as telephone, personal computer, multi-function copy machine, and 10-key calculator.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the Agency’s insurance carrier standards.
  • Work in an office adjacent to a warehouse setting with occasional travel to other locations in San Diego County.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel and uses hands, arms and legs for dexterity, balance and climbing stairs frequently. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.
  • Prioritizes and multi-tasks work and projects requiring good memory, concentration and analytical thinking.
  • Occasionally is required to perform the safe operation office equipment and machines, and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
  • Must be able to hear, see including peripheral vision and distinction of colors, read and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
