Proper nutrition is vital to the growth and development of children, particularly for low-income children. As schools let out for summer, many children will lose their one opportunity during the day to have a nutritious meal. In fact, 87% of children in Feeding America’s client households, who receive subsidized school meals, often go hungry during the summer months because their families are unaware of the Summer Food Service Program. Fortunately, through this program, children can receive free summer meals at eligible site locations.
The Ad Council, in partnership with Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, has developed new PSAs that raise awareness of the Summer Food Service Program and help continue to feed children across America nutritious meals throughout the summer months when they don’t have access to school meals.
We encourage you to run these time sensitive materials between June and August, the months in which the Summer Food Service Program is available. With your help, we can work towards alleviating the number of children going hungry across the country.
This campaign urges viewers to contact their local Feeding America network food bank or to go to feedingamerica.org/summermeals or feedingamerica.org/verano to find the closest Summer Food Service Program sponsor in their area.
