About Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank
The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is the largest hunger-relief organization in its eight county area of operations, each year serving over 160,000 people struggling with hunger through its network of more than 400 members. Having completed a $6 million capital building project that has allowed us to more than double our capacity and distribute as many as 17.5 million pounds of food and grocery products by the end of 2009, we are seeking a Director of Philanthropy who will be responsible for over $4 million in annual fundraising by 2012.
Position Description
Charged with oversight of the Foodbank’s fundraising initiatives across an eight county service area, the Director of Philanthropy must possess a broad strategic vision, extraordinary communication and relationship skills, budgeting and financial oversight experience, the ability to interact successfully with all people, and polished leadership skills.
Job Responsibilities
Supervising a staff of nine, the Director of Philanthropy will work closely with senior staff, the board and various committees to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to create and expand financial and in-kind support for the Foodbank.
Application Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible fundraising leadership experience
- Demonstrated ability to strategically formulate and execute annual campaigns, with specific experience in direct mail and online giving
- Experience designing and implementing major gift, grant writing, special events, and planned giving programs, and a deep understanding of donor stewardship
- Superior planning, organizational, management, and team-building skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative and professional skills, ability to successfully work with a wide variety of individuals, experience and understanding of the role of nonprofit boards, and strong public speaking skills
- Knowledge of computer applications, including development-specific databases
- Established relationships with or the ability to cultivate business, community, and foundation leaders, regional media, and government officials
