Position Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Major Gifts Officer will seek private funding support for a variety of agency initiatives. This is a highly visible position responsible for generating significant revenue. This position reports directly to the Director of Development & Marketing.
Job Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of prospects (primarily individuals and family foundations) with a focus on securing gifts and pledges of $1,000 or more annually
Visit donors to cultivate and steward giving, typically teamed up with a member of the agency
s leadership team
Conduct prospect calls to qualify potential donors to determine capacity and inclination to give
Engage donors and prospects at events and other venues as part of the cultivation process; Engage and manage program staff and board members in the development process
Work with volunteers and members of volunteer leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors
Conduct prospect research
Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for major gift prospects by assessing philanthropic intent, interest in supporting The Food Bank and giving capacity
Donor communication to include customized correspondence and other marketing materials
Other duties assigned by the Director of Development
Application Qualifications
Bachelors degree
3-5 years fundraising experience
Proven track record in major gifts solicitation
Ability to lead and motivate volunteers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience working with Raiser
s Edge or other donor database software
Time management skills and ability to work under deadlines
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with a strong attention to detail JOB PREFERENCES
Familiarity with AFP professional fundraising standards
Planned giving experience
