About Greater Chicago Food Depository
The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 600 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 500,000 adults and children in Cook County every year. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 46 million pounds of nonperishable food and fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 95,000 meals every day. Position Description
Develop and manage social work field placement program at GCFD; assist in grant development to support program funding; supervise student interns.
Job Responsibilities
Program Development and Management—Social Work Field Placement Program
- Supervise student field placements: Develops, oversee field placements for 1st- and 2nd-year social work students (up to 25 placements when program fully-developed) with local social work programs. Develop job descriptions; develop appropriate individual and group projects for students in the community, in collaboration with Director of Community Outreach, Director of AR, and AR staff; interview students and matches them with appropriate assignments; resolve conflict in the field; evaluate student performance in collaboration with field staff at social work schools.
- Manage relationships with partner agencies: Develop and maintain relationships with agency/community partners with interns; develop job descriptions and project descriptions; evaluate agency sites for appropriate fit with GCFD goals; resolve conflict in the field.
- Maintain relationships with social work school: Attend trainings and maintain required paperwork for social work schools and appropriate student evaluation and support; resolve conflicts in the field collaboratively with school partners.
- Develop appropriate training for student interns, w/AR staff and in tandem with Hunger Fellow training programs and other Agency Relations activity.
- Program evaluation and reporting: evaluate application and selection process; support fund development department in collecting data and preparing reports for foundation funders.
2. Community Relations:
- Develop connections and partnerships with other agencies, community development corporations, health providers, and ministries with the goal of developing placements that are mutually valuable to student and agency partner.
3. Capacity-Building Services:.
- With AR Director, ensure the coordination of agency-level and community-level services across the unit
- Assist student interns in developing their outreach, technical assistance, and planning activities with agencies; share knowledge, resources, and experience with capacity-building team.
4. Supervision:
- Supervise student interns (up to 25 when program complete): provide appropriate and timely feedback during 1:1 and group supervision sessions with students; complete all students evaluations in a timely fashion; work with task supervisors to ensure timely submission of all evaluations.
5. Maintain a turnover file for area of responsibility
6. Other duties as assigned.
Application Qualifications
MA or MSW and current LSCW license required. 3+ years direct clinical experience required. Staff/intern supervisory experience required. Experience administering government-funded programs and/or internship/community-based work programs helpful but not required. Solid understanding of and interest in relevant urban and social issues affecting Chicago’s communities. Ability to lead and direct the work of individuals and teams in a collaborative environment. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills required. Proficiency in MS Office preferred. Ability to work independently and to manage work and schedules with minimal supervision required. Must have access to working vehicle with valid insurance and possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
