Position Description
Collaboratively design, implement and maintain a community nutrition strategy for anti-hunger agencies in GBFB’s service area; continue to insure GBFB’s role as a recognized community expert on nutrition in the anti-hunger arena; to establish and maintain exceptional standards for food safety and food quality.
Job Responsibilities
1. Create (and generate support for) annual workplans supporting GBFB’s strategic plan addressing myriad needs of anti-hunger agencies in GBFB’s service area. These plans will include objectives, types of agencies or nutritional issues targeted, timing, development, resource requirements, measurement, rollout and capacity building.
2. Develop, approve and oversee administration of the annual department budget on a monthly basis.
3. Responsible for management supervision of the Nutrition Department staff.
4. Act as The Food Bank authority on issues of nutrition, food quality and food safety. This can include the nutritional assessment of current inventory; storage of current inventory; recommendations on food types to be targeted; shelf life guidelines and the awareness of food bank staff around safe food handling practices. This can also include agency specific queries on an ad hoc basis.
5. Evaluate the nutritional criteria of all inventory products upon receipt.
6. Conduct monthly food safety and client choice training for member agencies in the form of workshops and ServSafe®.
7. Represent GBFB by developing and sustaining relationships with individuals and organizations within GBFB’s service area that have active and on-going interests in nutrition programs or activities that impact GBFB agencies. These agencies can include, but should not be limited to ADA, MDA, Department of Public Health, Department of Transitional Assistance, Project Bread, Massachusetts Partnership for Food Safety.
8. Work with Development Department and with donors (existing and potential) in identifying development scenarios and growth opportunities.
9. Collaborate with Member Services, Food Group and Warehouse to insure that Nutrition work plan is clearly communicated internally and externally and executed with excellence.
10. Provide reports, analyses and updates as needed to Operations, Senior Management and others as needed.
11. Participate on the Management Roundtable and Distribution Teams as necessary.
12. All other duties assigned by management.
Application Qualifications
1. BA/BS in nutrition or related field.
2. Certification in Nutrition (RD and/or LDN) desired.
3. 3 to 5 years experience in community nutrition.
4. Demonstrated ability to teach formal classes on nutrition and food safety.
5. Supervisory experience.
6. Strong project management and organizational skills.
7. Certified ServSafe® instructor.
8. Certified Food Safety Professional certification desired.
9. Proof of HAACP training and successful course completion.
10. Strong demonstrated computer skills using Microsoft Office.
11. Self-starter; capable of working outside of the office routinely.
12. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
13. Excellent skills in collaboration and negotiation.
14. Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle; must be willing to travel within service area.
15. Non-Profit/ Anti-Hunger experience preferred.
16. Interest and commitment to the cause of alleviating hunger.
