The Director of Procurement supports organizational strategic plan by creating, developing and managing food acquisition initiatives to ensure continued growth in food resources. This position is directly responsible for donor and vendor relations and development with farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, distributors, retail grocery and food service companies. Oversees product acquisition, sourcing of food and non-food purchasing programs. Ensures that all food acquisition activities reflect the highest level of professionalism, follow best business practices and create positive community relations.

Job responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage departmental food procurement and sourcing strategy, goals and objectives to align with organizations strategic goals and initiatives.
• Implement processes and best practices for all product purchasing programs.
• Plan, implement, and analyze all strategies that utilize government funds allocated to acquisition of products.
• Oversee and develop department annual budget, ensuring effective allocation and utilization of resources.
• Research and cultivate new donors within the service area with team by maintaining awareness of potential new food industry businesses. Actively solicit donations of food, packaging materials and related products.
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal Three Square team members and external stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with staff from all areas of the organization (most notably Warehouse, Transportation, and Agency & Program Services) to ensure that food acquisition and sourcing strategies align with strategic direction.
• Steward existing donors within service area to maximize retail and non-retail channels through appropriate engagement activities, including visits, communications, and recognition programs.
• Maintain, grow and form new, collaborative relationships with food donors. Develop and maintain the donor stewardship program to maximize retail and non-retail channels through appropriate engagement activities, including visits, communications, and recognition programs.
• Track, analyze and report on selected metrics, i.e., pounds, donations by category, current, lapsed, prospective donors.
• Collaborate with other food banks, hunger relief and disaster relief organizations to maximize effectiveness of programs.
• Manage trades of surplus inventory with other food banks.
• Maintain strong relationship with Feeding America food sourcing department.
• Manage Feeding America CHOICE system to acquire nationally donated products.
• Provide professional, responsive and appreciative customer service to all food industry partners.
• Directs employees including performance management, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
• Oversee product acquisition through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and liaison with the Nevada Department of Agriculture.
• Optimize and utilize CERES system for all management and reporting needs.
• Optimize and utilize Bellwether purchasing system for acquisition and reporting needs.
• Assist with maintaining targeted warehouse levels of inventory.
• Provides monthly activity report to Chief Operating Officer
• Purchase all non-commodity/non-governmental food for Three Square.
• Serve as Three Square representative on internal and external committees as needed
• Demonstrates, supports and communicates mission, vision and values throughout all professional responsibilities and activities.

Supervisory Management
• Supervise a team of development staff engaged in forward-facing relationship building and relationship management.
• Ensure the team completes all required HR training and development opportunities.
• Formal staff supervision and informal check ins as needed to advance work and promote a culture that reflects the values of the organization.
• Day to day supervision of team and participation in cross-functional team meetings as well as leadership and revenue team meetings.
• Execute the performance management process ensuring that each direct report is evaluated on an annual basis and that informal feedback is a norm and delivered as needed.
• Manage confidential information.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Application qualifications

Experience and Education
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. MBA is a plus.
• 3-5 years of experience in food industry, purchasing, procurement, sourcing or operations management.
• 3-5 years’ experience managing and motivating a team, assessing talent, collaborating cross functionally, performance management and career development.

Skills
Exceptional analytical skills and strong mathematical ability. Strong business acumen. Ability to develop strategic relationships with stakeholders. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be self–directed and possess the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while maintaining high levels of performance. Must represent Three Square Food Bank with professionalism when interacting with external and internal stakeholders.

Working Environment

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions or outdoors in the elements. Job tasks are performed near other people and volunteers; must be able to travel to multiple sites and locations.
